  Chapter 1

  The Beginning of the End

My name is Melissa and I married my first boyfriend at twenty-two. Allen and I had been going steady since high-school and I thought I knew exactly what I wanted in life.

What happened? It doesn’t feel like more than the blink of an eye and everything is different. It’s ten years later and painfully clear that marriage isn’t as easy as it first appeared. I just took it for granted. We were young and happy, what could go wrong?

Our romance is dwindling, like a roaring fire that burns slowly to embers. It’s a reality that’s almost impossible to deny much longer. But as much as it hurts, I was never much of a quitter.

Maybe I got this from my parents, I don’t know. They were often challenged with tough choices. We moved a number of times when I was still living at home, usually because of their job situations. But we were happy and embraced the new opportunities ahead of us instead of dwelling on the problems we left behind.

The kitchen table is set for two, with two long candles burning in the middle. I’m making his favorite dinner. The lobsters are burning in the pot and a bottle of champagne is resting in the ice-bucket on the bedroom table. Sometimes you just need a reminder to realize how good things really are. I’m sure he would agree if he just took some time to reflect. We had so many wonderful years together.

Allen used to come home in the late afternoon with a smile on his face and a kiss that could take my breath away. I remember how I clung to him for as long as I could before serving him his dinner.

Nowadays he often works long hours and is very tired by the time he comes home. As one of the best lawyers in town it’s understandable. People see him as a hero, always defending the innocent and winning most of his court cases. I am proud of him and tell him all the time. But usually he just listens with half an ear and my compliments go unheard.

I’m looking at my wedding band as I wait for him to come home. The night when he asked me to marry him seems so far away. It was like a romantic scene in an old movie classic. A bit cliche maybe, but at the time it was just magical and almost electric. I still remember how we swam in that moonlit ocean as it happened yesterday. My hair was soaking wet and the cool air above the waterline made the dark water feel much warmer than it really was.

We were about to call it a night and got out of the water. It was right there on the sandy beach it happened. I still remember the cavalcade of emotions that swept me away from rational thinking as he got down on one knee and proposed. It was such an overwhelming feeling to be moved to tears and simultaneously be smiling from ear to ear. I thought he was crazy for wanting to get married. We were both so young, but we were deeply in love. It was the best day of my life.

An alarm goes off. The lobsters are done and as red as red can be. I place them on our best china plates to cool off. A quick look at the clock. It’s only four in the afternoon and I know he won’t be home for another hour. This morning he told me it would be an early day for once. It’s very rare that he ever gets home before sundown and I try my best to be supportive and understanding. Our house looks almost like a mansion and the money needs to come from somewhere. He wants to provide a good life for the both of us. He wants to make sure that I have all I could ever ask for. But what he doesn’t realize is that he’s the one thing I miss the most.

I would trade it all for more time together. The house, the fancy cars, the jewelry and the rest of the stuff probably mean much more to him than it does to me. I miss the days when a late-night swim felt like a good idea. Hell, I even miss just talking over coffee without the need to rush off five minutes later.

It’s so quiet that I can hear the clock ticking on the wall. I start setting the food out in a slow pace to keep myself busy. Everything should look really inviting when he comes through the door.

Suddenly the phone breaks the silence. It’s him. I pick it up quickly with a smile on my face. I feel my heart racing, waiting for him to say that he’s on his way home. I will tell him that I have a surprise for tonight. He will ask what it is, but I will tease him by not telling.

  “Hey.” I say cheerfully.

“Hi darling.” The voice sounds troubled and ends with a heavy sigh. My smile slowly fades away.

“What’s the matter?” I ask, trying to keep the happiness in my voice but failing miserably.

“I’m very sorry but I have to work late tonight. Again. I got this new case that I need to look over. It’s a very important one.” Even though he tries to sound upset, it doesn’t work that well. He would never become a great actor regardless how much he tries.

“It’s okay. When do you think you’ll be home tonight?” I stand up to blow out the candles. The cold lobsters almost disappear in the dark.

“That’s the thing, don’t wait up for me. I won’t
be home until the wee hours of morning, if I make it home at all.” His voice is getting lower and lower and harder to hear.

“Okay, can I at least stop in and see you for lunch tomorrow?” My tears are just seconds away from sliding down my cheeks as I wipe them away.

“That sounds great. I’m sorry I couldn’t get away but I love you.” Every time he whispers in that sexy voice it instantly takes me back to being newly married.

“Okay, I love you too.” My voice is also down to a whisper as my vision blurs with tears. The first drop finds the table and the sight of it encourage more to join.

I hang up the phone and surrender to my tears. Self-pity isn’t something I usually invest a lot of time in, but at this moment my sub-conscious is screaming at me about the seriousness of the situation.

Finally I gain back emotional control and decide; no more. It’s about time that I find out what’s really going on. For some time I’ve had this nagging and voluntarily suppressed feeling that I was standing on the sideline where I was served only selected parts of the truth. It had probably been a desperate sort of survival technique when I chose to believe what I was told. But as of right now that part of me is demoted to never be used again. Ever.

I pick up my car keys that are hanging by the stove and leave the house. I don’t even bother locking the door after me when I take off in my pink Corvette. It had been a gift for my latest birthday.

  Chapter 2

  Facing the Truth

I was fortunate to find a space for my car just a block away from his lawyer’s office. Now I’m more careful to lock the door. The neighborhood isn’t the best and I don’t want it to be gone by the time I return.

I am burning with anger, not sorrow. My face is red. I can feel it as I clench my fists at my sides. When I reach the building I see that his office lights are on and I’m thankful that he’s not out with some floozy. I take a deep breath and enter the building from the back. I thought that I would have to ring the bell, but someone has left it unlocked to just enter at will. I have to remind him that he has to lock it up when I leave.

Feeling better about the situation and knowing that he hasn’t lied to me about working late, I have a new smile on my face. But I’m also a bit embarrassed since I silently accused him of doing things that are obviously not true.

His office door is closed and just as I raise my fist to knock I hear giggling coming from the room. Not his laughter, but a woman’s laughter. Even though I’m already outraged by the sound, I choose not to barge in like any hysterical woman would have done. I decide to play it cool and get down on my knees to peep through the keyhole. I can see just about everything from where I am.

He’s on the sofa with a blonde woman, but I can only see her from behind. As much as I don’t want to watch, I know I have to.

I need to be sure that I have finally caught him in the act. All the times that he said I was crazy. All the times that he said I was overreacting. They were all lies. For a long time I’ve had this nagging feeling about what was really going on, but still wanted so badly to believe him.

“Oh, that feels fucking good Allen. Slam that cock into my pussy!” The woman cries out, throwing her head back.

He has his hands on her hips and I watch his prick slide in and out of her as effortless as if he didn’t have a wife waiting for him.

I’m rubbing my eyes to make sure I’m not dreaming. He’s slamming her down on his cock hard, but then freezes for a second.

“What are you doing Allen.” I can hear the blonde woman whining. For a second I am thinking that he’s about to change his mind and just wants to go home.

“Come here love, bend over my desk for me.” He says soft and sweet, just as he used to talk to me.

When I know the coast is clear and they aren’t going to catch me I put my eye back to the keyhole and watch as she does what he wants. Wiggling her ass, teasing and tempting him.

Biting back the screams that keep threatening to come out of my mouth I continue watching as he gets behind her. He reaches around and fondles her tits which makes her moan with each tight squeeze.

Then he slides his cock inside of her from behind, keeping a hold of her bouncing tits that threaten to break free. I move away from the door when he says he loves her and that she’s the only woman he wants in his life.

“Done.” I mutter under my breath and leave the building.

I march back to my car feeling both disappointed and furious. I’m so upset that if anyone messed with me I would probably do a lot of damage to them.

Back in the Corvette I don’t turn the key. I just sit there and think about how betrayed I feel. I’ve been living a lie. How much more should I put up with before moving on with my life? How can I confront him without making my own life even worse?

I put the car in drive and decide to go home. They are coming out hand in hand as I slowly pass his office. The light is now off and he’s walking her to her car.

I know that he’s not going to stay with her. I know it’s just an affair, but I also know he’s been having his affairs for several years. Everything fell into place when I saw them together.

I take off in a hurry to get to home before he does. Back at the house I keep the kitchen light on to make it look as if I was there the whole time waiting for him.

I slip into my black nightgown and wait for him to return. He will be surprised to see me still up.

  Chapter 3

  The Confrontation

I’m on the couch in the living room in my black, sexy lingerie when I hear the key slip quietly into the door.

The sight of the set table makes him let out a sad sigh because he realizes that he’s disappointed me once again.

He walks into the living room with his suit on, still holding his briefcase. He looks at me in shock for a split second when he realizes that I’m still awake. A forced smile spreads on his face.

“I told you not to wait up sweetheart.” He runs a hand through his black hair and walks over to the couch.

“I wanted to wait for you.” I whisper as he reaches out to play with my thin brown hair while looking into my eyes.

“I’ve missed you.” He murmurs, kissing me softly on the lips as he lets a hand slide between my legs.

I’m not wearing any panties so it’s easy for him to pet my soft, shaved pussy.

“Stop Allen.” I mutter, pushing him away as he keeps trying to get me in the mood.

“Look, I’m sorry if I upset you. I didn’t know that you were making a special dinner for us. You should’ve told me.” He searches my brown eyes with his dark blue.

“Don’t you lie to me Allen, you wouldn’t have come home even if the house was on fire. You were too busy with that blonde bimbo in your office!” I shouted at him.

I wasn’t able to hold it in any longer, shoving him so hard that he landed on the floor before he could catch the arm of the couch.

“You, you’re crazy!” He shouts, getting up and shaking his head.

“You’re right, I probably am. But you’ve been cheating on me for years. I’m just now getting the proof. I came to the office and saw that your office light was on. I thought maybe you weren’t lying to me for a change and that you were actually working. That was until I heard a woman’s laughter. I heard everything, even when you told her that she was the only one you wanted to be with!” I shouted louder standing up on the couch, looking down at him.

For a minute Allen’s mouth gaped open wide. His blue eyes looked at me as if I had done something wrong.

“You’re stalking me?” He pointed a finger at his chest.

“Don’t turn this around on me. You’re the one who’s cheating while I am trying to fix our marriage the best I can. Thinking it’s me that has made it boring. You have been cheating for several years. You were just caught tonight for the first time.” I spat at him, before leaving the living room, stomping hard across the kitchen on my way to the bedroom.

It took him a few minutes to f
ollow me, probably looking for a good enough excuse. I just might have given him another chance, if he had said he was sorry and really wanted to make things right again. But his response came as an ice-bucket of freezing water over my head.

“Melissa, I’m leaving in the morning. I’m packing my things tonight and will be staying at my mother’s. You can have the house. You can have everything you want. I’m not going to do this anymore.” He told me as calmly as he could.

I held my breath. I didn’t dare roll over and look at him. I just continued to stare at the white wall on the other side of the room.

“Did you hear me, Melissa?” He asked, as I looked over my shoulder.

“Get away! Do not come into this room. I will leave in the morning so you can get all your things out!” I screamed at him before facing the wall again.

I could feel his presence still in the room. I could feel him staring at my back as if he expected me to rush out of bed and walk out. But I had no intention of going anywhere this late at night. He sighed and got a blanket out of the hallway closet. Once again getting ready to sleep on the couch where he had been for the last few months.

  Chapter 4

  A New Start

I heard birds chirping and felt the warm sunshine through the curtains of the bedroom landing on my face. I knew it was morning and as I opened my eyes I remembered how horrible the night before had been.

Allen was sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in his hand and a newspaper on the table in front of him.

“Where’s our blonde floozy now?” I snorted, as I made myself a cup of coffee and sat down across from him.

“I told you that you can have the house if you want. Take it and keep your car. It’s completely paid for. It was a gift.” He muttered, without as much as looking up from the newspaper.

“I don’t want the house. What am I going to do with a house as big as this one? I’m the only one who’s going to be living in it.” I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I sipped at my hot coffee.
